Why we monitor this

Density is a common measure of sustainable planning. Increased density can reduce the costs of community infrastructure and operations, increase community interaction and vibrancy, and help protect green space. Density can also increase the viability of transit programs to reduce some of the negative impacts from transportation.

What this measures

This indicator measures the density of dwelling developments on land that is zoned for development. It excludes land used as parks, protected areas or very low density developments.
*Due to high vacancy rates in many Whistler dwellings, these results should be viewed with caution when linking neighbourhood vibrancy and density.
