Whistler’s 2017/18 room nights remained stable with 2016/17. Summer 2017 results reflect the second most ever, with winter 17/18 reaching record highs once again, virtually matching the previous record year for the community. Summer 2018 results show an increase from 2017 and a new record high for Whistler.

Why we monitor this

Rooms sold provides an indication of the size and health of Whistler’s tourism economy. Overnight visitors to the resort tend to participate in more experiences than day visitors, and the additional hours spent in the resort result in increased spending patterns and greater contributions per visitor to the local economy.

What this measures

This indicator measures the total number of room nights sold in the resort in a given year. Note that winter results are referred to by the year the winter began (i.e. Winter 2004/2005 is reported as 2004, along with Summer 2004). For competitive reasons the specific results of this indicator are not shared. All data is collected annually by Tourism Whistler.
